PathWell Psychiatric Services - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, often through a combination of medication management and therapeutic support. In contrast, a psychologist focuses on therapeutic techniques and assessments but does not prescribe medications. Both play important roles in mental health care, with psychiatrists primarily managing medical aspects and psychologists focusing on therapeutic interventions.
2. Are psychiatric services provided virtually or in person?
We offer psychiatric services both virtually and in person, allowing clients to choose the format that best suits their needs and preferences. This flexibility is designed to make accessing care as convenient and comfortable as possible.
3. How much does it cost to see a psychiatrist?
Psychiatric services are covered by OHIP in Ontario, so there is no cost to clients for appointments with a psychiatrist. However, clients must have a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card to access these services.
